Could be insecure with old code and not updated to the latest WP version.

That’s technically impossible. The dates aren’t stored anywhere before installing the plugin.

I wouldn’t worry about security. The code is pretty straight forward. However, as always there might be a chance it won’t work properly anymore with future WordPress version.
