Has WP Been Uninstalled or Not? (5 posts)

I didn't get an answer to my previous problem:

    http://wordpress.org/support/topic/295399?replies=2#post-1157131

so I was forced to delete my theme via FTP then the whole WordPress blog via SimpleScripts, the way I'd installed it. (I couldn't do anything via WP itself because I couldn't access any part of my blog - see other post).

I'm told SimpleScripts has deleted the whole blog, so why are the files still on the server when I connect via FTP?

I want to make sure it's a clean uninstall before I re-install, as I don't want stray files confusing matters.

I'd delete them manually, but not all files begin with wp- so I'm afraid I might delete something I shouldn't.

    Please help

    Thanks

That's a good question and one more reason not to use auto installers. Download WP from here:

    http://wordpress.org/download/

Exract it on your computer and look at what files/folders are included. Then delete those on your server. If it left files behind, then it may have also left your database behind...no big deal, but you may want to remove it as well.

Then I would recommend a manual install...see the written directions here on wp.org, and/or the video tutorial here:

If you don't have Cpanel or a good hosting control panel that lets you unzip files, then just use FTP for the file transfer part.

Thanks a lot for your help Figaro.

Sorry to ask a dumb question but how would I know if the database is still left behind?

    Thanks

Your webhost should give you some means of creating/managing/viewing your db's...how you do that will depend on your host.

Thank you. I have hosting accounts with two different companies so I have changed the DNS ready to go to the other host, just to doubly make sure it's a totally new install.
