I genuinely don’t understand the hype for this plugin. I’ve used it for years because of its reputation alone, but I’m in the process of switching every site over to another vendor after another major hack that was undetected with a paid version of this plugin. It’s happened on multiple other sites over the years. I just can’t keep pretending this plugin works after adding a different plugin and having that plugin immediately detect the issue. It seems like the most useful thing Wordfence does reliably is to send you an email telling you what plugins and themes have updates… which of course is also right there in the WordPress dashboard. The support has never been great. Even with paid versions, it can take 1-2 days to get a response. In the case of my most recent issue, the excuse was given that “We sometimes see malware deliberately break our plugin so that you can’t use the scanner so that may have been the cause.” That was after the initial delayed response that was more of a pitch for their cleanup service than a response to my concern. I’ve used other security plugins and just have not had that bad of an experience. So, if it’s working for all you other folks, that’s awesome. It has consistently failed me.
