Okay, my cat has recently joined the associate program and has managed to recreate this problem, I’ll see if I can get it fixed.

    Paul

I finally gave up and just got the Amazon Assoc. chrome extension. Now I’m doing my links through it. I don’t get a pop-up of the product on Amazon when I hover, but at least it is linked through my associate’s account.

I’m still following this thread too!

    Same problem here,

If ia go to setup, it shows a message showing:
AWS Request Failed, please check keys - Error Message: We did not find any matches for your request.

But if i go to templates it is showing price correctly but not in frontend.

I am using only spanish amazon

    Error message:

    AWS Keys Validated

AWS Request Failed, please check keys – Error Message: Your ******************** is not registered as an Amazon Associate. Please register as an associate at https://affiliate-program.amazon.co.uk/gp/associates/join/landing/main.html.

It’s trying to pass the keys through Amazon UK. Mine are meant to go through Amazon US.

    Potential temporary workaround:

I signed up for an amazon.co.uk Associate ID, secondary to my US Amazon Associate ID. I entered both Affiliate ID’s in the applicable fields. I used my single pair of AWS keys in the appropriate fields. I clicked the update options.

Everything appears to be a success, and the AWS Keys Validated checkbox is now ticked.

This IS a bug that DOES need patching ASAP. (Nobody should be forced to sign up for more than what they want, especially since it can have tax implications.) But this method may allow at least temporary functionality.

    HTH; YMMV.

    Hi,

I’ve uploaded a new version of the plugin, that will validate your AWS keys in the locale you have selected as the ‘Default Country’ – obviously you must have registered at this locale

(this did not used to work for Spain, hence it was hard coded to the UK) .

It appears Amazon have become much more strict on the usage of the AWS advertising API – with much stronger links to the affiliate accounts. You can’t even run test searches in other locales unless you are a valid affiliate there, which is just daft.

This will probably be the last update to the plugin, sorry, as I strongly suspect Amazon are trying to stop the development of apps like this one.

    Cheers,

    Paul

    Hi Paul,

Just a thought: Have you considered contacting Amazon directly and asking them about this and what to expect in the future?

Given the stats for Amazon Link plug-in use and the fact that it is consistently listed in almost every “great WordPress plugins to use for Amazon” article in the English language, it’s safe to say that your plug-in is driving a bloody massive amount of affiliate sales to Amazon properties. Affiliate sales could fall off a bit if your plug-in stopped working and no further updates were made.

What I’m saying is… you may have a bit of leveraging position to get answers, etc.

Now, I don’t know if this has anything to do with it or not, but I noticed – just looking between Amazon US, Canada, and UK – there seems to be a disparity in what affiliate advertising offerings Amazon itself puts out. For example, the US doesn’t seem to have the sidebar widget anymore, but Canada still has it. The big shiny thing Amazon has rolled out for US affiliate marketing is not currently available for Amazon Canada or UK, as best as I can tell. So I’m wondering if the change may have something to do with changes they are making to their own affiliate marketing tools, as opposed to any specific intent to shut out third party developers.

I say this because Amazon has a vested interest in acquiring sales through any channel legally possible, including third-party plugins and tools.

    Again, just food for thought.

    Cheers!

I get the following error message when I enter my keys:

AWS Request Failed, please check keys – Error Message: Your AccessKeyId is not authorized to perform this operation. Please check IAM policies for the Access Key.

I feel like I need a “setting up your IAM user/permissions for dummies” kind of introduction, telling me what specific policies (by name) I need to add to the user, or exactly how it’s done, step-by-step. I am a dummy.

    Thanks for your help!
