harddrive vs www

  • I’m installing MAMP and wordpress on my hard drive so that I can create my site and upload it at a later date. I’m in the middle of the 5-minute install. It is asking me to put in the MySQL information. I can go into my website settings and get/create this information, but is it necessary if I’m going to be running it on my harddrive?

    @alchymyth

    you need to input the database information for your locally created database; http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress_Locally_on_Your_Mac_With_MAMP

    Okay. I did all that and when I clicked on Start Servers, I went to a neat page with lots of places to click. I was so excited I closed everything else I was doing, getting reading to do some editing in earnest.

    After closing everything I went back into applications and then clicked on the MAMP icon. This time–nothing. When I click on Start Servers, the gear turns but I don’t go anywhere and the Open Start Page is greyed so I can’t open it.

    I tried starting if Firefox, but when I clicked on the MAMP icon, I went to a folder called Contents, and from there just went to more folders and docs.
