    Hi!

My site has recently been hacked. Having regained control of it and sorted out the hack I am looking to implement solutions to prevent it being hacked again.

A lot of people seem to be saying that http://www.sitelock.com is pretty much essential. I have been blogging a while and have a lot of posts and for my site this is $99 a month or $1200 a year. This for a blog that up to now cost $60 a year and that runs no ads or affiliate schemes.

Given the open-source attitude of WordPress and the community I am amazed that everyone is recommending a paid resource particularly one that is costing so much more than every other aspect of running a blog.

Anyway, I am interested to know other peoples’ thoughts, what you have implemented, options instead of http://www.sitelock.com and so on.

    Regards
    GIJoel

Who is “everyone”? I’ve never seen that recommended here.

WPyogi. That was the question. I have done a lot of reading across the web from people who have been hacked by this latest hacking
round and many are recommending this. I am looking for other recommendations.

See the above. Where is your site hosted? Do you know how your site was hacked?

I recommend not paying for anything. There is no need to pay unless it makes you feel all warm and confy inside.

Look at the links that WPyogi posted. They will help you.

Here is two plugins that I use

    – Better WP Security
    – Harden WP

Also look into securing your server as well and not just WorPress

Thanks for these. I will work through them later on and implement those that I have not implemented so far. In answer to the other question, my site is hosted on Westhost and no I do not know how it was hacked.

    Justin.

Thanks. This is exactly what I needed. I will go and read those too.
