• I am having difficulty with my h1 tags.

Google news requires that titles be inside of h1 tags.

The template used to create our blog automatically put titles inside of h3 tags.

This caused problems with how our titles appeared in Google News searches, as well as in the indexing of blog entries.

When we repaired the problem, we created a new problem.

Now, every title on our main blog page has an h1 tag, so there are many, many h1 tags on the main blog page.

Also, we now have an extra title tag in the meta tags of each page – not a meta tag, just a “title” tag, but no “>” at the end.

    What a mess.

Needless to say, this causes the Google News crawler to be very unhappy!!

    Our blog is at http://www.ocdla.com/blog

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Tom

Edit your theme, or get a new one.

There should only EVER be one H1 tag on a page.

Thank you Ipstenu. I agree with your comment.

However, editing our theme is what caused these particular issues. In fixing two problems, we created two new problems.

What I am hoping for is some advice on how exactly to edit the theme so that we can resolve the these issues.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Is that your own theme? Without looking at the source of the templates, no one’s really going to be able to tell you jack. And since it’s a custom theme, and not one people can download, the best we can say is this:

Change your theme so that your post title uses H1, and nothing else.
