Support » Fixing WordPress » h1 h2 h3 tags?

  • I have recently been doing some SEO optimization on my site. It sat idle for a long time with barely any rankings. Just used it to accept cc payments from paypal. I have come a long way in my rankings. Did alot of keyword work. I added an SEO plugin to help me evaluate the health of my site which I have gotten up to about 49-51% I am really stuck on these tags. I did not see any H1 H2 H3 tags on my editor, so I added another plugin which added the buttons for me. So far so good, all buttons appeared as so. when trying to apply tags, they just will not apply. http://www.tricountychimney.net. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance Mike

    What are you trying to apply the h1 tags to and what editor are you talking about?

    I placed a keyword at the top of my page as a header, and applyed it to that. The editor in wordpress that I use to edit pages.

    I don’t understand why you say you don’t have h1, h2 or h3 tags — the site you linked to (using twentyten theme) has all of those on every page.

    Do you mean the ‘Editor’ under the Appearance? If that’s the case it will not do anything. I believe what you mean is adding them to the meta keyword part, correct?

    ok I read about how important these tags were. So I watched a couple youtube videos and they were applying them from buttons on the wordpress editor, but I did find them on my editor. So I added a plugin to evaluate my site health, which said I did not have any of these tags and several others, “alt” strong b and an(i) tag. so I added another plugin which added these buttons h1 thru h6 to my editor which it did. buttons appeared on editor immediately but trying to apply these tags they just do not apply. hope this helps you understand better

    I just used the page editor and worked in a box somewhat like we are typing in now.

    You ALREADY have those tags on every page of your site. Look for <h1> etc. in the HTML code. If you try to add more of the same, you will HURT your SEO.

    the page editor makes all changes to my pages

    This is from your site:

    <h1 id="site-title">
    <h2 class="entry-title">
    <h3 class="widget-title">

    I will do that, I was just going on the evaluation of the seo plugin that said I did not have any of these tags

    you extracted that directly from my site?

    The SEO plug-in is wrong. Do not change anything about those tags — they are already there.

    They are not together like that, but yes, each piece of code was copy/pasted from your site.

    I will not do anything further with these tags then. I have gotten fairly good rankings so far in just 2 weeks of working with keywords and such. How long does it take after optimizing to start getting good results. I started seeing results almost immediately and seems to be getting better by the day.

    It’s very hard to say anything definitive when it comes to Google rankings :). In fact, most people say that keywords are not very important anymore, but evidently that’s helped you a fair bit. So who knows. If your rankings are improving — great, you’re doing something right! Have you looked at Google’s webmaster tools and related SEO info? I think that’s probably a good place to get valid/current info.
