• I have set up w3 total cache everything is working as it should do, however which run test in google page speed insight and a gtmetrix.com both say I need to have enable gzip compression.

I have Enable HTTP (gzip) compression tick on in browser cache setting. I have also checked with my host 1&1 and they confirm gzip enable and also check myself with /phpinfo.php

Any idea why this is not working?

  • If the htaccess rules aren’t working then your best shot would be to set it up via your cpanel. Most hosts in cpanel have a tab called “optimize website” set it to all content and it will be gzipped.

I have looked more into this and run tests on other sites with the same settings on same host, and I have now ruled it down to a plugin crash, if I found out what it is I post an update
