    The Gutenburg html editor mode has no buttons for format functions. Its capability as far as button input is minimal.
    It would be handy to at least have the same buttons as the visual editor, which then insert the html code.

    Additional buttons might include non-blanking-space (in both editors), and other common html code.

    For less commonly used functions, there could be a drop-down list to select from.

    Or
    have similar access methods for custom code (or code segments) that the user can add/edit/delete, such as in the editor on this wordpress.org forum site.

    Also
    possibly include a syntax checker, which may be an optional extra if the chooser wishes to install it.
