I made sure the plugin works if Gutenberg is enabled (you can use the insert page shortcode directly, or use the Shortcode Block), but so far I haven’t built out any additional functionality.

I started to build a Gutenberg block, but then realized that Gutenberg itself includes Reusable Blocks, which provide the same functionality as this plugin.

    Hi Paul

If I may, the Reusable block is not providing the same functionality.

I have been using Insert Page (with total love) to insert the content of a given page inside another. I wouldn’t add full pages (and a lot of them) into Reusable blocks.

    Just my insight 🙂

Ok! Good to know there’s a use case for it. I will put it back on the todo list and keep this thread open to discuss progress. Thanks!

    Great, I’m glad I wrote.

Just in case you need more detail on the use case, here is an example, one of my clients have frequent events, with dozen of pics. They create pages with galleries that go into their special list of pages for that, they do not want the news about the event to go there.

Then they add a news (post) to talk about the event, a text that will insert the gallery page.

another example (even though it’s not gutenberg related, just to say how much I love Insert Page 🙂 ), I created a nice looking bio info to go to my author box, and insert it in my profile (added do shortcode in my child theme functions.php), very helpful.

also, can I donate to you?

Hi Paul, I hope you are doing well.
    Any news about this?

We have managed to carving out some time this week and next to hopefully make some progress. Will be in touch!

Re: Donations, no need since this work is fully supported by the College of Education at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. However, there are avenues to donate to the college itself if you’d like!

Are you comfortable testing out a development version of Insert Pages? The latest version on github includes a Gutenberg block, and I was hoping for some feedback before releasing it officially in Insert Pages version 3.5.

If so, please clone the repo, replacing the existing wp-content/plugins/insert-pages folder, and let us know if you run into any problems:

Thanks for the suggestion but I finally didn’t use it yet.

    Best luck.

    Hello @figureone

Oh wooow that’s fantastic news, sorry I missed it last week

I tested and for now I got “Error loading block: The response is not a valid JSON response.” in the editor, when inserting the block

However, it displayed the content on front end when it is a post or a page, but not when it was another post-type.

I tried with an Astra hook (from Astra theme), and it didn’t display on frontend via the block (tried with slug and ID), but works via the shortcode.

Tell me if you want me to test further, and if you want to talk privately, I’m on slack, username patriciabt

    Many thx!

    Aloha Patricia,

I’m having trouble reproducing your issue with the Astra theme. I can’t get any errors to show on vanilla WordPress (Insert Pages as the only plugin), even when I test custom post types. Using the Insert Pages gutenberg block works fine.

Can you help diagnose perhaps a conflict with another theme or plugin? Try turning off other plugins and reverting to one of the base themes (Twenty Seventeen or similar), and see what you find. If you can’t narrow it down, maybe describe your steps in detail (including code samples for custom post types) so I can try to set up a similar environment.

    Hi @figureone

Yes I will do that and let’s discuss this on slack.

    Talk soon
