I noticed that if triggered from a Gutenberg gallery block, Lightbox do not open if image has caption. Works fine with the other images in the same gallery.
(I am using Oxygen page builder, in case this would make any difference)

Do you have an example where I can check this? Because on my own demo page it works fine with Gutenberg gallery blocks even with captions:

Caption for each image (classic WP gallery as well as Gutenberg gallery block):

I got it now:
I does not work if the mouse is over the caption itself, and the gutenberg gallery has the caption on a gradient background partly transparent.
Clicking on the image does trigger the lightbox
I now read your suggestion of adding

figcaption {
pointer-events: none;
}
