Guide in making a wordpress theme

I’m looking for sites that provide a guide in making a wordpress theme. I have been reading Themeshaper(http://themeshaper.com/) guide for beginners in making a theme but i have problems understanding the codes being displayed in the guide.

The guide doesn’t have any images, figure or illustration on what the output/result would be if i enter this code in this file. It’s kinda hard entering codes when you don’t know what the output or result would be. I already have knowledge in HTML and CSS all i need now is to develop my web into wordpress.
