[Resolved] Guestbook doesn't work if you're not logged in

  • Please go to our site: mccla.org, scroll down the home page, and click the blue “Please sign our guestbook” button. A new window will open. Go ahead and fill out the form and hit the ‘Post Comment’ button. You’ll see that you get an ‘Invalid Data: Please try again’ message.

    If you’re signed into the system (there are only five of us who have user login id’s, you can use the guest book and it posts the comments. But that’s not the intention here- we want guests who are just visiting the site to be able to sign in.

    The Guest Book feature was working beautifully previously (I’m a new Admin here) and we’re using WordPress 3.9.1.

    I’d be grateful for any ideas on how to get the Guest Book working again!

  • I agree with jiminps, people who visit my site would like to leave a comment but cannot because they have to sign in. There is nowhere to sign in. Very confusing! Especially after I put this on every page I need it on. Therefore, it makes the people leave and not want to come back. Please offer a fix for this. Thanks!

    There is a general wordpress option where you can define if users must be registered to comment. You can find this option in Settings -> Discussion -> Users must be registered and logged in to comment.

    But on the guestbook page this option should be overwritten. I will change that in the next version.

    Can anyone tell me how to edit the message “you must be logged in” which is displayed by the WP Plugin called “Comment Guestroom” above the comments field?
