    Hi,
The address 151.80.20.193 from France has been constantly visiting out website since I installed GTranslate. Not realizing the relationship to GTranslate I blocked it because it is dramatically affecting our site visitors statistics, only to find that GTranslate stopped working. I unblocked it and GTranslate started again. I did this again to prove a point

I presume this is a crawler / bot from GTranslate keeping our site translation updated?

How do we stop it affecting our statistics?

    Ed

    Hi,

It is our proxy IP address. If you use our paid version and someone visits your translated page and we do not have a cached version of your original version we forward the same request to get the original version, to be able to translate it and serve to the visitor.

However, we always forward the real visitor IP address in X-Real-IP and X-GT-ClientIP request headers, so you know who is really visiting your website. You will need to reconfigure your app to use the IP address forwarded by us if the request comes from one of our IP addresses (trust our IPs).

Our IP addresses should not be blocked, otherwise we won’t be able to get your original content and provide translations.

    Thanks! 🙂

    Thank you.

    1) So does that mean each time a non cached page is translated we receive both the proxy IP and the real visitor IP?
    2) How long before all the pages are cached and the proxy IP only appears occasionally?

    Please find my answers below:

    1. Yes
    2. We cache pages for 24 hours if we are allowed to. So in practice your popular pages get cached and you see requests once in a while. You can check more about it here: https://docs.gtranslate.io/en/articles/1871130-how-caching-works-in-gtranslate-network

I want to note that we do not cache POST requests, so if someone is doing nasty things like posting login/password to scan for a match, your firewall should use the real IP address to block such requests based on that.

    Thanks! 🙂

Is the address 151.80.20.193 the only proxy GTranslate uses? Or is there an associated URL we can put into the statistics exclusion settings

    Hi,

No, it is not the only one, for the full list of IPs, please contact our live chat: https://gtranslate.io/#contact

I would recommend you to modify your statistics tool to use the real IP address when aggregating data, instead of the proxy IP address and instead of excluding it.

    Thanks! 🙂

    Thx All fixed.
