    Hi there
    My blog is

I’d like my categories to use greek characters but wordpress doesn’t seem to want to display them. Both front- and backend is the same. They seem to work initially but once I refresh, they get jumbled.

  • Hi I had the same problem because I write articles in both Greek and English.

Check the instructions about how to add language to your blog.

    Extra help in Greek here

First of all you need to clarify in which language you need your main functions to be (post dates, dasboard language, etc). I would suggest you keep the English for the main functions which means you skip the second step as the instructions say,

Then you have to change the unicode of your server database. I would not advise you do try it by yourself. It is very very dangerous, you can loose files. Consult a web designer or ask it from your host customer support (that’s what I did and now it works great). However it you decide to try it by yourself backup your data before any change.

    Just an example

So if I install the language file this will solve the problem of greek not displaying correctly? I don’t have a need for the dashboard to be in Greek.

    Didn’t seem to work.
I don’t know if this matters but greek characters work in the post themselves, just not as categories.

    I managed to fix it!
Now my wordpress dashboard is in Greek but whatever. Thanks redrum!

Hello norther, I’m Greek and I have the exact same problem as you. Although you did not mention, how did you manage to solve the problem?
    Thank you in advance.
