  • Resolved dhedley

    I have created a drop down menu using CSS, and it works almost perfectly, except that the height of the li is bigger than I want because there is a > showing up above each item. I first created this in straight HTML, and it worked fine, but when I put it into the header.php file, it puts in the symbol.

    I realize that the CSS should go in the style.css, but when I do, it doesn’t work at all.

    Here is my site address:

    ul#navmenu, ul.children {
    ul#navmenu li {
    	width: 125px;
    	position: relative;
    	margin-right: 4px;
    ul#navmenu a{
    		width: 125px;
    		height: 25px;
    		line-height: 25px;
    		background-color: #FFF;
    		border: 1px solid #CCC;
    		border-radius: 5px;
    ul#navmenu .children a{
    		margin-top: 2px;
    ul#navmenu li:hover>a{
    		background-color: #CFC;
    ul#navmenu li:hover a:hover {
    ul#navmenu ul.children{
    		top: 26px;
    		left: 0px;
    ul#navmenu li:hover .children {

    very awesome

    This is when you need to use a tool like FireBug (for FireFox) or the developer tools that are inclued with IE, Chrome and Safari to inspect the CSS rules that are applied to your site. With firebug it took me about 20 seconds to see this rule at line 148 of your stylesheet:

    ul li:before {
      content: "› ";

    That’s what’s adding in the > symbol. Remove that rule and the > will dissapear.

    Thanks so much. That is just what I needed.
