• Original Review (5 stars)

I have tried multiple translation plugins and this is by far the easiest to setup and to use. I have starting migrating sites from other translation plugins to TranslatePress.

    Edit (1 star)
I have a love/hate relationship with this plugin.

It is the best translation plugin out there in terms of ease of use. But it has a major flaw. If you have anything more than a basic (read: small) marketing website, TranslatePress will slow down your site dramatically.

My TTFB goes from 1.5 seconds to 4 seconds on a larger e-commerce site. Obviously 4 seconds before the first byte is returned is completely unacceptable in e-commerce. I’m not even happy with the 1.5 second baseline but that is due to a different plugin issue. So, TranslatePress has been rendered completely useless and cannot be activated.

That being said, they did provide a plugin as a solution. But that solution came with two problems.
    1) They didn’t add a check to see if TranslatePress was active. So when I installed the plugin and activated it prior to TranslatePress, it completely crashed my site.
    2) It didn’t fix the load time issue once I got the site back up and live.

But I have to give some credit to the authors for at least trying to fix the problem. However, consider using the support form on their website too. I opened a support thread and it has been 6 days (at the time of this writing) with no response. I also see another support thread with a similar issue approaching 2 weeks with no response.

I hope to go back to just loving this plugin if they get the issue fixed, but I feel I need to give it a 1 star review for now as a warning to others with large sites.
