Support » Fixing WordPress » Great tools but can anyone help me with the hard stuff?

  • First off, let me say wordpress is an amazing tool and in the few days I have owned it I have managed to build a fairly comprehensive and somewhat engaging site but I want to do a lot more. I’m an absolute newbie when it comes to any kind of coding or html but because of the beauty of wordpress and plugins and google and all the tutorials my site is quite good. I’m running the p2 buddy press them which I found after extensive searching. Here’s what I’d like to do and if you can help me with any of it I would be greatly indebted –
I’d like to add custom sidebars to add widgets(yes I’ve tried hardcoding it in but I’ve had no luck, as I’m a complete newb).
I’d like to add a seperate themed mainpage and 1 other through the cosmic buddy theme and then have the rest of the site run through the p2 buddypress theme.
I’d like to run an inline astore also through the cosmic buddy theme.
I’d like instant auto-approved comments (all options in wordpress turned off and its still not working).
I’d like really big reply buttons.
Different buttons on the navigation bar at the top of the screen.

this is all I can think of off the top of my head but feel free it pick at any part of it you’d like. I will supply any code, information, or other necessary information to help get it done, but remember i’m a complete newb and even with detailed instructions have failed(with adding sidebars).

  • You can use the custom sidebars plugin for creating your sidebars and add some widgets to them. Then you just select the sidebars from your edit page.

hey thanks for your reply but i think that plugin just allows you to make custom widgets on your sidebar per page. i’m trying to add new sidebars all together on the left and far right margins, but if it does allow you to do that i am unable to figure it out even with a few tutorials i read.

That plugin allows to create new sidebars, and change your theme’s sidebars for the new ones. All you need is a theme capable of having 1 or 2 sidebars, at the left or right…

I recommend Mystique, is easily configurable.
