Thanks. I’ve been working on other projects and released this pretty quick, only updating if there are bugs. I definitely think you are right! I need to add more description to get more attention.
Also, glad you were able to find the solution here with this plugin. It was something I wanted for myself, so you can see why I made it 🙂

Oh, also, i read the forum over there for 404page plugin. I don’t want to reply over there, but they are right, as I do not use the hook that wordpress provides for the 404 page. But, I created this plugin because of the issue i was having with the hook.
Which is why this plugin is coded the way it is. It does have an extra http request, but correctly gives the 404 header. So your 404 page may take 5ms to 100ms longer depending on the users connection and the way your server responds.
