This is probably one of the most in-depth analytics plugins you will find. However, it comes at the cost of speed. Ran a test both with and without the plugin. It easily added a second or more to load times. Also, this plugin modifies/adds to your database and stores information unless you tell it when to delete old archives. It did do a great job cleaning itself up after uninstalling, but I had to give it three stars because I wasn’t willing to sacrifice a second+ in page speed. It also took the performance grade down by 10 points or more.

Dustin, switching the tracker to Client-side mode should ease this problem. We have run similar tests on our dev and production environment, and results are not as dramatic as you experienced. Server configurations vary and can greatly affect performance. Using cache / CDN services like CloudFlare or W3 Total Cache can visibly improve load times and performance, while keeping all the benefits offered by Slimstat. The alternative would be to hand all your analytics to Google 😉 It is obvious that keeping all the info private on your own server must come at a (small) cost.

    Best,
    Jason.

If you want just stats (accurate stats) w/out bells and whistles get “SO Jetpack Stats Only”
It is a fork of Jetpack but with a minimal footprint (shows the Stats dashboard widget only).
