The good – I am always looking for new ways to approach users and improve website speed. This new plugin is great, the building of web stories is quite straightforward. The result is a clean web story which loads fast and looks awesome.

But then the two very bad parts.

    – Getting stuck – There is no way to navigate out of the web story. When people are done browsing though the web story on on both PC or mobile, they get stuck. There is no clear way out, only the back button. This is just plain silly, I have observed people around me trying to get out. Most of them just tap here and there and eventually close the browser because they get annoyed. Visitor lost.

    – Analytics – I have Google site kit, AMP tag with tag manager and everything but still struggled for more than two days(!) to get the web stories to show up in Analytics. After two days I gave up, it is just too complex and quite frankly it annoyed me quite a bit.

I understand that this plugin is in it’s early phase. And yes so far the work done has been great. But if you want this plugin to succeed these two basic and fundamental issues need to be addressed as soon as possible.

Without a way to navigate back to the website, it has 0 practical use for website owners. Without the traffic being monitored in Analytics, it is just a waste of bandwidth.

  • @xchristox thanks for your sharing your feedback about the plugin! We’re happy you’re able to create stories with ease.

There is no way to navigate out of the web story.

This request is on our radar. We’re getting further input from the AMP project about implementation, but we’re actively considering it.

Site Kit’s Tag Manager compatibility is still pending (Github issue), which is probably why you experienced this. Site Kit’s Analytics module/snippet code will work just fine or alternatively you can place your Analytics Tracking ID in the Web Stories settings under Stories > My Stories > Editor Settings (screenshot).

We’re aiming to improve the overall experience even more so your feedback is most helpful as we continue development.
