Great plugin – now unsupported – alternatives?

I still use this plugin on my site, love its simplicity, and would like to keep taking advantage of it. But let’s face it, the code is old now and there’s a lot left to be desired.
Are there any similar plugins out there now, currently being updated and supported, that would allow you to custom-arrange some posts to make headlines & summaries like this plugin does? Curious if anyone has a good one.
