Support » Plugin: Members - Membership & User Role Editor Plugin » Great plugin but very annoying dashboard notification

  • Members is a great plugin, I use it on many sites, but can you please make the dashboard notification permanently dismissable when the ‘X’ at top right is clicked. Looking in the code, I can see it only removes it for one week. As per the plugin guidelines, notifications must be permanently dismissable.

    Thank you 🙂

    Hi Simon,

Members uses two types of “transients”: members_review_prompt_delay and members_review_prompt_removed. The first one expires after one week. The transient is stored when the user doesn’t want to review right now. This causes them to be asked again after one week. The members_review_prompt_removed “option” completely disables the notice. This happens when they review or select the option that they’ve already reviewed the plugin.

I understand that, but in my opinion clicking the ‘X’ should permanently dismiss the review reminder – I should not have to either review the plugin or pretend I’ve already reviewed it in order to stop being nagged by the reminder.

Thank you for pointing this out. We appreciate it. I’ll be sure to send this as a suggestion to our developers for their review.

I’ve checked your code, and I can see that the members_review_prompt_removed option is only set if you click on ‘let us know what we can do better’ (assuming you first clicked on ‘Not really’ to liking the plugin). If you on the other hand choose ‘No thanks’ to leaving a comment, only members_review_prompt_delay is set, and you never get rid of the notifications.

I’m not sure why you think that annoying your users is a winning marketing strategy, but after being nagged about this about 100 times, I have decided to remove this plugin from all of my sites, and find another plugin for managing my user roles.
