Support » Plugin: Gutenberg » Great Plugin – Long Time Users Don’t Understand

  • I actually can not wait until it is built into WordPress. I think it will be a great addition. Themes and plugins will have to update though to allow for this to work better, but all in all i think this is a good move.

I love the plugin, and will be looking at building themes that fit within this editor.

Lone time users have been stuck into using the old stuff and feel way more comfortable in that and do not like change. This is a great plugin, and I welcome it to the core. I know you guys will have the ability to replace this with whatever it is a person wants. But I think this is a smart idea to add to core for new users!

@joshuapack thanks for the review and for taking time to test Gutenberg. The hope is that with feedback and iteration many themes and plugins will not have to update. This is a lot of the motivation in calling out for testing now.

I’d love to know more about what themes you are thinking of building. Is there any particular aspect of the new editor you want to showcase in them? Along with this, is there anything you would love to see in the editor that doesn’t currently exists?

“old users do not know how to use it”… wow… just wow.

@karmatosed Right out of the box, the editor works very nicely. I really enjoyed using it, and I can’t wait to test more of it out. I have been using WordPress since 2005! as you can see from my blog. WordPress as a platform has always been discussed on whether to keep offering it to clients, and I have been on and off, especially since there are some really cool technologies out there.

Is there any particular aspect of the new editor you want to showcase in them?

So, Yes. Out of the box, I noticed that due to the theme I am using, the styling does not stick with the editor. What I mean by that is, it isn’t so much of a what you see is what you get. So, CSS changes either need to be removed or updated. I would love to be able to bundle blocks within a theme to compliant and make building posts even easier. I find it already easier to build a page with this, and I feel like a theme can compliment it in that way, with their own styled blocks.

Along with this, is there anything you would love to see in the editor that doesn’t currently exists?

Oh yea! I think the ability to make full width, or width 100% easier would be a good start. Right now, when I add an image, it is way too large, and isn’t mobile friendly. Which brings up a second point. Adding mobile view and a mobile friendly framework would be nice. I figure though that it should work out of the box with common frameworks, that way a wordpress owner can have a theme with let’s say bootstrap, and have it work nicely with the editor would be nice.

All in all, I love the design, and I feel like teaching my clients this plugin will be easy, plus, any help they need I can help out pretty quickly.

Keep up the amazing work, and if there is anything else you would like me to specifically test, let me know!

‘Old Users Don’t Understand’ what a condescending title. I have tried page builders but prefer the text editor as it suits my content. A page builder may suit yours but don’t presume that one type of content editor fits all, it doesn’t. ANd don’t presume to dictate how others build their pages.

I am trying to have a conversation with the plug-in editor, not you. Please submit your own review.

    Before this spirals further.

There is very clearly a language barrier here I believe, and the term intended is “Long time users”, and not specifically “old aged users”.

Now let’s all try to presume that we all have the best of intentions, English can at times be confusing 🙂

Thanks Marius. You are right, I am not talking about peoples age. Why would age matter in this? I can see how people may have got confused, but no need to attack me. Ask for clarity.

I will change my review to reflect the more clear understanding, so people don’t get confused. If you are a person who mistook my review, I am sorry, it was clear in my head. A new user vs an old user. I thought the opposite of new was old, so it made since in my head.

What you might not get is long-time users might actually use WP as a CMS and not as some sort of self-hosted social media.

As someone who works up to 12 hours on 1500 to 5000 words single posts, including text, equations, source-code, graphs, etc. I see the benefit of this editor for people posting a bunch of videos, pictures and some paragraphs… But for someone typing industrially, it only adds more overhead.

@aurelienpierre are you telling me this because you want me to change my review?

Because, as of right now, this is a plugin, not core. and when it becomes core, you will still be able to use other tools. so, I am unsure of your point.
