Support » Plugin: XML Sitemap & Google News » Great for WPML Multi Language

  • I had trouble with SEO YOAST and the Google Sitmap while running on NGINX with WPML. I use Directory mapping for the multiple language. It work like a charm now.

I did upload to Google Webmaster tools both Sitemaps:

    /en/sitemap.xml
    and
    /fr/sitemap.xml

    As simple as that.

    Thanks

  • Hi, thanks for the vote and for sharing your experience! 🙂

What strikes me though, is that even though my plugin used to separate by language (with qTranslate for example) I removed that functionality. I did that because it is fine to have multiple languages in one sitemap and keeping compatibility with multiple language plugins was a pain.

I do not have WPML (I use Polylang whenever needed) so I’m not sure how it is possible but could you tell me if these two sitemaps each include only posts/pages/terms from their ‘own’ language? Or are they both the same?

    http://www.rawtests.com/fr/sitemap.xml

Please note that even though my home page is:

    http://www.rawtests.com/

http://www.rawtests.com/sitemap.xml does not return anything. Which is perfectly acceptable to me.

As for myself, I am perfectly at ease with the way this is working. Don’t change anything!

On WPML there are multiple settings. I chose By Directory with a front page. (subdomain and parameters also exists but they are a pain in google analytics)

    Thanks

The en sitmemap include only en .url. Same for the fr sitemap as you can see.

http://www.rawtests.com/sitemap.xml does not return anything. Which is perfectly acceptable to me.

Funny because the feed actually does exist http://www.rawtests.com/?feed=sitemap and seems to reflect the default (?) language.

Ideally, the root sitemap.xml should be an index that references these two sub sitemaps. I’ll consider this for a future release but I’ll have to find a way to detect WPML first. Can’t promise anything soon so your solution to submit these two sitemaps is the way to go for now 🙂

BTW, I notice one Lens post in your French sitemap is not valid. Any ideas what’s going on there? Are there no translations for these Lens posts all or is there one but not public yet?

Working on these now. This is a new site being built.

    Thanks

Sure I understand. I’m just wondering why that Lens post is there in the FR sitemap while it is not available publicly… That suggests an bug in my plugin.

The way WPML work, this might be normal.

I was in the process of copying over english content to french translation. When I use the “Duplicate” option, WPML create the .url but point it (like an internal 301) to the original version of the post.

OK, then I suppose there is no real problem… thanks again for the feedback and the vote of course ! 🙂
