• I previously used another great SMTP plugin, albeit paid, for my client projects. I switched to using FluentSMTP recently and am impressed by it. I like all you get at the price tag but also the additional features such as real time alerts being and the ability to easily resend an email.

The shortcoming? It offers a “Fallback Connection” but that fallback/second connection cannot have the same from address as the primary connection. When do you need a fallback connection? When the primary one fails, but it’s a backup connection and should come from the same “From” address.

Also, the ability to route connections based on which program is sending it would be very good. (Another major, paid, WP SMTP plugin does exactly this). So, emails send through, say, Amazon for all emails except if they come from an abandoned cart plugin which routes through, say, Sendgrid. This allows us to keep transactional and marketing messages separated which maintains our transactional sending reputation.

This is a great alternative but falls short in these areas.

    Hello @forefront,

Thank you for leaving such a positive and insightful review of FluentSMTP! We’re so glad to hear that you’re enjoying the plugin and finding it a great alternative to its paid counterparts.

Regarding the shortcoming you mentioned, we completely understand your need for a fallback connection with the same “From” address as the primary connection. We have forwarded your feedback to our development team, and they are currently exploring the possibility of implementing this feature in a future update.

As for routing connections based on the sending program, this is an excellent suggestion that we will definitely try to consider. We believe that providing our users with more flexibility and customization options is essential, and we appreciate your input in helping us make FluentSMTP the best SMTP plugin it can be.

Once again, thank you for your support and valuable feedback.
