Support » Plugin: Disable Comments » Gravatar scripts still active even after plugin active

  • WordPress has annoyingly integrated Gravatar into its core. Even after deleting comments, the page load wastes valuable time hitting the s.gravatar.com website for each user.

Any thoughts on where these calls reside or how to negate them as a future plugin update?

Thanks, and thanks for your work!

Yeah, the way it is baked into the core is very annoying.

I looked at this some time ago. WordPress uses gravatars for all users (not just commenters) and uses them for displaying post authors etc. Given that this doesn’t just affect comments I felt that disabling that functionality was out of the scope of this plugin. Disabling avatars for post author profiles etc can break things visually if the template is expecting them.

There are other plugins out there that will do this sort of thing (see https://wordpress.org/plugins/add-new-default-avatar/ and https://wordpress.org/plugins/disable-user-gravatar/) which you might find useful.
