I use the Gravatar Profile Widget that comes with JetPack on my blog. If you look, it shows my photo, but where my information should be, it shows a link that says lionnoodlesjanus3362. The “View Full Profile” link leads to a page for lionnoodlesjanus3362 as well.

This appears on all devices I have as well as all browsers on those devices. So far I have:

Logged in to Gravatar.com to ensure that no one had messed with my account. (Nothing I could see, my username there is still thespookybookshelf, not lionnoodlesjanus3362.)

Changed my password for my WordPress.com/Gravatar/JetPack account to be on the safe side.

Checked the settings on the widget to make sure it is set to show my profile – it is.

Removed the widget and re-added it to the sidebar, again, checking the settings to ensure that it is setup correctly.

Removed the widget, deactivated JetPack, uninstalled JetPack, reinstalled JetPack, reactivated and set up JetPack, and re-added the widget, checking to ensure settings were correct.

I have even cleared cache and cookies. Nothing has gotten this to change. Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this and make it show the correct information? I find it odd that it shows this link, but my Gravatar photo and even changed the photo when I changed my Gravatar photo, but won’t show my correct profile.

    Hi there,

Gravatar displays information based on an email address, not based on a username. So it’s showing the profile information for the email address you entered into the widget settings when you set that up.

The lionnoodlesjanus3362 Gravatar profile uses the same email address as one of the secondary identities in your thespookybookshelf account. If that’s the email address you used in the widget, that’s what’s causing the conflict here.

To fix this, log into WordPress.com/Gravatar using the lionnoodlesjanus3362 username. If you don’t remember the password you can reset it at https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword – entering the username there will send a password reset email to the correct email address for that account, so just check all your emails for that.

Once you’ve regained access to that account, go to https://wordpress.com/me/account/ and change the email address to something else. Remember to also confirm the email change or it won’t complete.

You can also delete that account completely, but change the email address before you do so, because emails are only deleted from a closed account after 30 days.

After this change, give at least 24 hours for the Gravatar cache to clear. If it’s still showing the wrong profile’s info after that time, you might need to flush your site’s own cache as well.

For more help with this, please open a support ticket at https://jetpack.com/contact-support/?rel=support and mention this thread – I can’t go into any more specifics than I was able to share here in the forums as it’s public, and we cannot verify your ownership of the WordPress.com/Gravatar accounts in question here either.

This didn’t start until after I paid to get an Akismet API key… could that have created a secondary account with the same email? Because my widget worked fine until I bought the API key.

That sounds very plausible, yes. If you tried logging into Akismet with an email address that isn’t directly associated with a WordPress.com account (which would include any secondary Gravatar identities on your profile) rather than your username, that could definitely have caused a new WordPress.com/Gravatar username to be created.

In that case, please contact Akismet support directly to see if they can move that subscription over to your primary account for you, so you can close the new account:
