Have you looked in wp-comments.php ?
(And has anyone suggested to the plugin author that such instructions could be useful ?)

I haven’t but I agree with you. There needs to be more instuctions. When it comes to wordpress, it’s looks, or anything else I am completely lost. I feel like giving up.
