Grab Featured Image Too

Hiya, the Post of the Day (POTD) works great, except that only the title of the post is shown. I need the featured image to also show. I have placed the shortcode in an arbitrary text box widget in a sidebar and I can only see the text.
How can I add functionality so that the featured image also shows?
