How is this google announcement going to affect Postie?

To help keep your account secure, Google will no longer support the use of
third-party apps or devices which ask you to sign in to your Google Account
using only your username and password. Instead, you’ll need to sign in
    using Sign in with Google

This was the original email from Google – I changed the email address.

On 30 May, you may lose access to apps that are using less secure sign-in
    technology

yikes. i know a few people that needs to be aware of this for other projects. thanks!

how will @wayne react to it?

Honestly, I was hoping Google would back off on this change. I have looked into it awhile back when they first announced it. It is going to make it very complicated if not impossible for the average user.

I will release a version that is compatible with the new Google mandate eventually. It is a significant change to support a single email provider.

We, too, will be in this boat.

Surely in this case you just create an app password for Postie.

    Yahoo also use OATH2 🙁

postie needs to use OATH2 its not just an app password as far as I can see.

    I’m working on a solution.

Great to know that this will be supported and that you’re working on a solution Wayne, Thank you!

I know it’s still early but do you have a rough idea as to when you might have this release.

We have a cut-over from our email provider of Oct 1st and hoping to have setup / tested before then.

If not completely understand, and would just need to plan accordingly.

Thanks again for your invaluable contribution to the WordPress community!

Thank you for your kind words. I don’t have a release date yet. My goal is to have something before May 30. It is a significant change to Postie and will require a number of extra steps to set up your Google account to allow Postie to do it’s thing.

This is also the case for Microsoft email accounts. So it’s not only gmail that has the issue.
