Google Webmasters not accepting XML Sitemap

Hello guys,

I have the Sitemap created with the plugin of yours (http://idiomas.proddigital.com.br/sitemap_index.xml) and I have already added it in Google Webmasters for a long time, and it always worked normally.

But now you’re showing me an error message:

Problem:
Incompatible file format.

Description:
Your Sitemap does not appear to be in a supported format. Make sure it meets our Sitemap guidelines and resubmit.

I attempted to resubmit the Sitemap, but it still displays the same error message, saying the file is not bundled.

Please, could you check if there is something wrong with your XML format?

Hi,

We are not sure why Google is showing that error. Your sitemaps here: http://idiomas.proddigital.com.br/sitemap_index.xml work as expected. The sitemaps appear correctly as a .xml file. We suggest the following actions:

A. Make sure the right sitemap_index.xml file is submitted.
B. Clear all your caching.
C. Consider Contacting Google as Yoast is outputting the sitemap as expected. You may contact Google by making a post on their forums: http://productforums.google.com/forum/?rd=1#!forum/webmasters.

Hello Pcosta88,

Contact the staff at the Webmasters Help Forum (https://productforums.google.com/forum/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=footer#!msg/webmaster-pt/k5o4U_equbM/3quav7ycBgAJ) and they informed me that the correct model is the one below:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<urlset xmlns="http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9"> 
  <url>
    <loc>http://www.example.com/foo.html</loc> 
  </url>
</urlset>
```
In the reply to the Forum, Rafael explained that perhaps Google is looking for <urlset>, but in the sitemap of my site is <sitemapindex>.

Which one is correct? And how do you adapt it to the correct one?

Hi Rodrigo,

The one Yoast outputs is correct. The sitemap here: http://idiomas.proddigital.com.br/sitemap_index.xml contains all the sitemaps. Google has a special protocol of: sitemapindex xmlns they mention here: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/75712?hl=en.

Your individual sitemaps have the urlset xmlns protocol on them: idiomas.proddigital.com.br/post-sitemap.xml.

We are not sure why Google fails to pick-up the sitemap_index.xml as Yoast is outputting it correctly and it is using the correct protocol.

If Google is still outputting errors we would suggest to continue to clear caches or re-contact Google for more information.

I checked with Google support (https://productforums.google.com/forum/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=footer#!msg/webmaster-pt/k5o4U_equbM/8FB7tTh6AwAJ) and I have seen the situation where the sitemaps index and all individual sitemaps meet the standards required by Google.

According to Rafael (Google support), when he tries to access the XML of my site through Googlebot, the sitemaps are not presented to Googlebot.

Here’s what Rafael says:

Hello Rodrigo,

When I try to access XML by emulating Googlebot, no content is returned. It seems that when detecting Googlebot, your server presents something else, when it should return the contents of the XML.
