 * I used the Plugin called “google-sitemap-generator .3.1.4” and it blew away my
whole site. I think I know why. I was in a rush and did not create the sitemap.
xml and sitemap.xml.gz files before pushing the “create sitemap” for the first
time button. Would this thing overwrite everything in my directory? The entire
WordPress directory is gone. I’m not optimistic about getting it back, but I’m
hoping for a hail mary here. Any ideas?

 * The folders are all gone. There are no folders anymore. I don’t really know.
I did not create the two files the plugin asked for so I’m wondering if it has
something to do with “reading” and “writing” over top of everything somehow?
I don’t know. I hit the “create sitemap” button and it just sat and sat for a
while. Finally I stopped it. Then I went and tried to create those files it asked
for (By the way, do you just create those in WordPad or some text editor??) and
tried again. It didn’t work and everything was gone.

 * I still don’t think the plugin could do that.
Those files are created when you
click on the configuration settings in the plugin admin – you don’t have to manually
   create them.
 * Ok – as for the folders gone. You still have your site – you’re ok.
    If you are
double sure the files and folders are gone, simply install a fresh wordpress
to your site. Also, upload the theme you were using and also the plugins. Now
in your wp-config.php, input your database details (the db you are currently
using). Do not run the installer. Connect to site now with browser. Should be
   back in business.

 * Thanks for your help. I had to reinstall the whole thing and set it all up again.
Fortunately it didn’t take too, too long. I don’t know what happened. But thank
   you!
