Google Site kit Fails to Set-up
-
Hi there,
I have had Site kit for a couple of years now on a load of sites I manage, but recently the link disabled on one of my sites, prompting me to re-link the site.
This is what happens…

Please advise, thanks!

Hi @embarkstudio thanks for reaching out and providing the video which is very useful to see. Would you please be able to share your Site Health information. You can use this form to share privately if preferred.
Could you also first try a Site Kit reset following our guide here and try the setup once more to see if that helps.
Let me know if you have any questions in the meantime.
Hey Adam,

With resetting, only the ‘dashboard’ (initial set-up) is available to me. unfortunately.
Thanks a lot!
@embarkstudio Thanks for that and no problem. You can also reset Site Kit by going to Tools > Available Tools > Reset Site Kit.
If you don’t notice any changes after this then I’d also recommend also trying our troubleshooting guide which can help identify if there is a theme or plugin conflict in play.
Correct, already tried “reset Site Kit by going to Tools > Available Tools > Reset Site Kit.” Unlinking is fine, it’s just the linking part that’s the issue.
I have deactivated all plugins, in a staging environment and used default theme – no fix. This appears to be account/database related.
What database tables can I remove to do a clean uninstall?
@embarkstudio You mentioned that you have Site Kit on a number of sites that you manage. Can I ask how many sites you have Site Kit connected with and are these all connected using the same Google account?
Are you seeing this issue with all of the sites you have with Site Kit installed or just certain ones such as this one you’re having issues with currently?
I have 20 sites – I’d say most, if not all are using site kit.
They are not connected to the same account, I use the relating Gmail account for the relating website.
The site is the only issue I am having it with π
@embarkstudio Thanks for the information. Would you be able to paste the url you land on when you are redirected to your homepage from the setup page here?
Do you notice any console errors when going through this process?
Sure!
Error:
This is the only error in the console log, which occurs at the page when I get redirected to home.

Hope that helps π

@embarkstudio Thanks a lot for your continued patience and assistance while we look into this. We have had similar reports, with users being redirected back to an invalid wp-admin URL, resulting in the redirect (which shows a 404 error in the screenshot you kindly provided).
Could I just also ask if you have at any stage migrated this site, changed the domain or changed your wp-admin path?
It also looks like you have Cloudflare active on your site. Can you temporarily disable Cloudflare before attempting setup once more? Youβll find instructions on how to do this below:
https://community.cloudflare.com/t/how-do-i-temporarily-disable-cloudflare/68798Let me know how you get on with that as I continue to investigate this further for you.
No problem – thanks for the support!
I changed the domain about 18 months ago (sitekit worked up until about 1 month ago).
I only activated Cloudflare 3 days (the issue has been for the last 1 month as stated).
No luck when deactivating Cloudflare.
@embarkstudio you’re welcome and thanks for the further information. When looking at the redirect url you provided after trying the Site Kit setup I can see that it refers to
https://embark.studio/dashboard/
.When checking this url it looks like that there are a couple of 302 temporary redirects set up. The chain of redirects for this look as follows:
https://embark.studio/dashboard
302 redirects to:
https://embark.studio/wp-admin
302 redirects to:
https://embark.studio/wp-loginAre these something you have setup yourself or could have been done via another plugin? Is it possible for you to temporarily remove the
/dashboard
reference and see if you can complete Site Kit setup this way?Hey @adamdunnage
I renamed the /wp-admin/ location to /dashboard/ this fixed the set-up issue. Now all looks ago installation-wise.
But the UA/GA4 code doesn’t appear to be actively on the site so no traffic is triggering.
Thanks again for the advice and finding that out re: /dashboard.
@embarkstudio Great to hear that changing the wp-admin path has fixed you setup issue glad I could help there!
With regards to your UA/GA4 code not displaying it looks like that this could be due to a conflict with the LiteSpeed cache plugin. Is it possible to temporarily disable this and check once more to see if Site Kit is then placing your code snippet for Analytics?
Hey @adamdunnage
Thanks again for that.
First, I have commented out Google Analytics URLs from ‘Localisation files’:
### https://www.google.com/recaptcha/api.js ### ### https://www.google-analytics.com/analytics.js ### ### https://www.googletagmanager.com/gtag/js ### ### https://www.googletagmanager.com/gtm.js ### ### https://www.googletagservices.com/tag/js/gpt.js ###
Secondly, I disabled Litespeed altogether. No luck on either fix there.
Interestingly…
– I get data from ‘users active in the last 30 mins’ but 0 data for general users (same today and yesterday). see: https://imgur.com/a/eGqYOC1
My thoughts so far…
1) Litespeed issue – Disabled with no luck
2) Cloudflare issue – it’s my understanding from cloudflare that they skip all Gooole analytics etc. from cache@embarkstudio Thanks for your continued efforts with this. Now that you have managed to complete setup it might be worth trying the troubleshooting steps once more just to check for any plugin conflicts again that may be interfering with Site Kit placing the Analytics snippet.
Alternatively you could first try once more temporarily disabling your Cloudflare to see if this makes a difference.
Let me know how this goes and if further troubleshooting is needed.
