Hi Julius,
Google sometimes substitutes your description for a “better fitting one”. And this time, it might even be incorrect.
It might also be that you’re using a page builder, and therefore the description can be empty. It’s best to fill in your own description, if you find the time to do so.
It could also be that you’re using a breadcrumb plugin, which incorrectly injects itself too early into the visible content, where The SEO Framework treats it as applicable content.
The breadcrumbs in Schema.org settings can’t have anything to do with this. As they aren’t visible the content, Google processes them as “Rich Data” and will never use it in the description.
It’s the visible breadcrumb that’s shown in the description field.
However, without a link to the regarded page, I can’t really give a concrete answer :). These answers are all based on estimates and common causes.
I hope this clears things up!
Hi Sybre, thanks for your reply. The thing is this has only started happening after the installation of SEO Framework, searches for older posts show the correct post description and excerpt.
Just to clarify these are blog posts using the default wordpress editor and fields and the theme hasn’t changed in any way.
All posts have relevant information filled in, both in the custom description field as well as manual excerpts. I don’t have a breadcrumb plugin, the theme has it’s own display breadcrumb option, but again, this was never an issue until the most recent posts.
Is there any way I can send you a private link to see a screenshot of the result and the url? I Googled today’s posts and the same problem appears, and I’m concerned all posts will have this problem going forward.
Looking forward to your reply,
Julius
Hi Julius,
I think I indeed need to take a closer look.
You can send me information confidentially right here.
When resolved, Google will automatically update the descriptions, so this issue will not be permanent.
Have a great weekend :).
