Support » Everything else WordPress » Google ranking Homepage instead of inner pages?

  • Hello,

Recently I have seen a strange behaviour from google. It has started indexing my homepage instead of the post page. For e.g say I write an article about a new movie say Terminator.Google would happily index the post named “Terminator” but when I will search the same word in google my homepage would show up instead of the post page.

My website’s URL is Box Office Collection India

Any help in this would be highly appreciated.

P.S: If I have broken any role for posting links, then do notify me as I am complete newbie here.

  • Will anyone throw some light on my issues?

Want to know if it a wordpress issue or from google itself.I am using Genesis framework.

I believe these issues will fix themselves after your website has grown some in popularity.

It is hard for Google to understand the different, especially when it is the headline of your index page. When the post goes down the page, it will be more natural to rank the post, than the front page for the particular headline.

Also make sure to set up XML sitemap and submit it to Google Webmaster Tools. This will help Google to understand what identifies as individual posts.

Google will give results to the page that it thinks is most important. I notice that your posts are on the home page. That means that if the keywords you are using in Google appear on more than one page – post and home – it will decide which one is the most important.

As your site grows, Google will figure out that the article is more appropriate and it will show the post instead.

One way to help this along is to only backlink to your relevatn posts and not always to the home page.
