Support » Plugin: WordPress HTTPS (SSL) » Google Maps https Removed Issue

  • I have a problem much like the resolved post here-

    This is a bad solution though. I have “Force SSL Exclusively” enabled, because I wanted links on our secured PHP pages to the rest of our site to not try to be HTTPS links because those failed. This worked fine, but the embedded Google Maps give me the error as in the original post since they must be over https and the plugin changes it to http. I’ve tried many things in Secure Filters for the Google Maps link like /maps/ but haven’t gotten anything to work and allow the Google Maps URL to remain https. Do the URL filters only work for links to within-site pages?

    Any help?

  • Ok, I’ve learned that just activating the plugin causes the Google Maps URLs to convert to http! Now I have other https links that still work fine and aren’t converted to http. The Google Maps embed uses an iframe. So I tried putting in an iframe that points to another page on my site as a test, and sure enough, that one gets rewritten to http from https as well.

    The plugin is rewriting iframe URLs. I was able to find “iframe” in the plugin code in Parser.php. It’s hitting this in fixElements()
    else if ( !$this->getPlugin()->isSsl() && strpos($url, ‘https://’) === 0 ) {
    $this->unsecureElement($url, $type);

    isSsl() is indeed false since this page isn’t ssl… and there is https:// at the beginning of the URL, so this conditional is true. It calls usecureElement()… which then calls makeUrlHttp() rewriting the URL!

    So I commented out that line 199 in /wordpress-https/lib/WordPressHTTPS/Module/Parser.php.
    $this->unsecureElement($url, $type);

    That works for me. I don’t mind having https links on http pages, and I definitely need them for Google Maps. Dev, any idea what reasoning is behind this?
