  • Hi Stephen,
Might be worth mentioning that if you need the extra plugin if you set up a new domain.
I set up a new site on the 23rd and got the problem straightway. Was confused until I read this.

Building for Scale: Updates to Google Maps APIs Standard Plan

We no longer support keyless access (any request that doesn’t include an API key). Future product updates are only available for requests made with an API key.

The extra plugin fixed the problem straightaway (5 minute delay on setting up an api key).

This is now fixed with 3.1.1.

You use the Google Maps API settings section in Settings > Event Organiser > General or add the following to the top of your wp-config.php:

    define( 'EVENTORGANISER_GOOGLE_MAPS_API_KEY', '...your api key here... ' );

This second method will hide the Google Maps API settings section.

This is *not* working for me — either entering it in wp-config.php or in the Event Organiser settings.

The map loads, then gets replaced with a grey error message that says “Oops! Something went wrong. This page didn’t load Google Maps correctly. See the JavaScript console for technical details.”

I have another Google map loading successfully in a sidebar widget, for what it’s worth.

    Suggestions?

Do you have a link to your site?

Like Chris Mackay, I tried to insert our Google API Key, which we created just for this purpose. As soon as I insert the API Key, the maps get replaced with that error message, without the API Key, everything works fine, the maps are back and the error is gone.
I checked the relevant Google-Helps, proofed the settings of Search Console in our Google Account, even the Domain-Settings … but couldn’t get rid of the error message.
So I cancelled it, hoping to not get punishment by Google some day 😉

Do you have any idea what’s going wrong with the Google API Keys on sites like ours?
    Cheers,
    Heike

    Hi Stephen,
In the settings page ( Settings > Event Organiser > General ) I have put in the google maps API key, but now result.
First I have put it in only in the theme settings and I saw not a map in the events pages.
Then look in the Event Organiser settings and yes there is also a field to give the API key, but like I say before no result.
    The website is ” toerismevosselaar.be ”

stef1 – your API key has the error message: RefererNotAllowedMapError. Basically your site URL doesn’t mach the allowed sites linked to the api key.

(See https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/error-messages for a list of all errors).

Heike – as above, I can’t help without a url, but look at the Browser console for an error message and look up it’s meaning via the link above.
