Hello, I am new to GA and GTM and this plugin has been a great asset.

I’ve read a lot of articles on User Ids but I’m having trouble creating the data layers and variables necessary to see this information in my GA reports. I would like to see the activity from logged in users in GA but at the moment all I see are client ids despite logging in as a member.

I have an authentication system (Ultimate Members) and I created a “visitorType” data layer in GTM based on the information I found on your HowTo articles and this support thread: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/user-id-3?replies=2

Any help would be appreciated. Cheers!

    Hi,

You will need to activate the Visitor ID option in plugin settings to use this feature.

Next you will have to create a new Data Layer Variable to read the visitorId variable from the datalayer.

Next you will need to update all of your GA tags: open the “More settings” section and the “Fields to set” panel and add a new row with the field name userId and assign the previously created Data Layer Variable to this field.

    I hope that will help,
    Thomas Geiger
