I run a blog for my company and recently we switched to the Optimizer theme for better functionality with mobile devices.

Before switching themes, we would get a handful (5-15) of visits a day. Google Analytics showed a range of visit duration and pages viewed.

After switching to Optimizer, we dropped to 0-1 visit per day and an average session duration of 00:00:00 and 1 page viewed per visit. That was about two weeks ago.

So this weekend I did a test: I got on my home computer that had never been to the blog, viewed 5 pages and left the window open for 15 minutes.

This morning, Google analytics shows 1 session, avg 00:00:00 avg session duration, 1 page per session, and no 1st time visitors.

Anyone run into a similar problem?

  • Where do you input your specific Analytics account information within the theme? Is it possible that that information was attached within your old theme so it isn’t “connected” anymore?

I have not added any Analytics account information within the theme.

I’m admittedly new to wordpress and am not sure what you mean by that.

No worries! I’m not positive but it sounds like your old Google analytics was attached to the theme you were using so when you swapped, the information is no longer being tracked properly.

There are a few different plugins (ie: https://en-ca.wordpress.org/plugins/google-analytics-for-wordpress/) you could use to attached your Google analytics account info to the site again that would insert it within your code on page load.

Did a little googling, found and followed this

I’ll test again on Wednesday to give the code time to do it’s thing and report back on Thursday.

I added the tracking code to the footer using the “Insert Header and Footer” plugin before I got your reply.

I’m going to test what I did and if it doesn’t work I’ll try your suggestion next.

It seems to be working properly now.

    Thanks for the help!
