Trying to install Google analytics but cannot find the theme’s footer.php to paste the code into. Also cannot find version of wordpress I am using. Looked under Appearance in the Dashboard but there is no ‘Editor’ option as I’ve seen mentioned in other threads.
Would really love some help.
Hi, one way to find out your current wp versions is to check out the readme.html file
You can install Google Analytics via plugins
Hope this helps.
Thanks very much. For some reason I don’t seem to have a plugin tab on my menu…
I’ve tried to do something with widgets so will know if that’s worked in 24 hours. Didn’t realise it would be this complicated!
If you know how I can get the plugin option that would be brilliant.
Well, you need to know the username and password for an ‘administrator’ user and then you just log in.
Hmmn. Interesting. Well, I’m the only user of this blog and I created the account, but as far as I know there’s only the log in I created… (sorry, as you might have guessed I’m not very good at this stuff)
What is the URL of your site?
Is it a wordpress.org site… or a wordpress.com site?
There you go. It’s because it’s a wordpress.com site. This is for wordpress.org self-hosted sites.
They are completely different… with different features, layouts, and options.
I know it’s not what you want to hear… but you need to post your question on the wordpress.com forums:
Confusing… I know 😉
Ah ok. Thanks! And the idiot of the day award goes to… me! Cheers for that guys. I’ll leave you in peace now…
Lol… well, we certainly hate to see you go! Should you ever choose to undertake a self-hosted wordpress.org site… you know where to find us!
BTW… I’ve always admired readers… and love your blog idea!!
Thanks very much. Excitingly I’ve just got a book deal to write the story of the whole adventure – one of the reasons I’m keen for more data as writing about blogging will be part of the book. However, I’ve just discovered, thanks to your link, that apparently wordpress.com doesn’t allow Google Analytics. Ah well, can’t blame a girl for trying…
Thanks – have a good weekend!
Haha… well… if it were easy… everyone would be doing it 😉
Here are a few related links I found:
Cloudfare seems to be the most popular… just from the little I’ve read about it over the past four minutes 😉
So.. start with those resources. If you get stuck along the way.. you can always send me a personal email via my contact form:
… and I’ll be happy to help.
EDIT: … and congrats on your book deal!!
