Google Analyitics not firing
-
Hi
I would need some help to identify a possible issue with Google Tag manager and Analytics that is not firing.
via Google Tag assistant, I see that I transmitting both UA- of my site, see attached screen shot.
Moreover, we installed a separate container for AMP pages via the AMP Google TAG Manager plugin:The container is: GTM-NKDQXZV
While the standard container is: GTM-5KZ7M6N.>

Hi Encrico,
In the screenshot you provided there are 2 views firing on your site, and they do seem to be firing on your non AMP URLs from checking on my side. There also seem to be views applied, which may filter out any traffic. Can you try and remove any existing views before checking your Analytics real time report once more?
As you’ve also configured Analytics within Google Tag Manager it’s more difficult to inspect your AMP setup. Have you tried using the Site Kit plugin and connecting Google Analytics that way, it ensures your regular Google Analytics snippet is placed on your canonical site while your AMP-analytics is placed on AMP URLs, with any views you prefer optional. Likewise for Tag Manager it can insert a web container for your canonical URLs and AMP container for your AMP URLs.
Note that when testing your tags it’s also best to use tagassistant.google.com, as opposed to the Chrome extension which I believe is being depreciated.
Hi James
thanks for your reply.
So the steps, after installing Site Kit, would be
1) connect Google Search Console & Analytics.
2) then do I need to connect GTM too ?
3) and if yes, shall I remove the AMP Tag Manager Plugin? Finally, do I still need a different GTM container for AMP as it is currently suggested by this article?, so that at the end can I keep just the same Container for desktop and AMP pages, that is GTM-5KZ7M6N?
Regards
EnricoNo problem, happy to help. To answer your questions see below:
So the steps, after installing Site Kit, would be
1) connect Google Search Console & Analytics.Yes, when you connect Site Kit your site will already be connected to Search Console. You just then need to connect the Analytics module. After doing so the same Analytics snippet will appear in both your canonical (non AMP) and your AMP URLs.
2) then do I need to connect GTM too ?
If you were only using Tag Manager for the purpose of inserting your Google analytics snippet then no, you don’t need to connect the Tag Manager module within Site Kit.
3) and if yes, shall I remove the AMP Tag Manager Plugin?
I wasn’t aware you were using an AMP Tag Manager plugin although yes, there is no need for any additional Google Tag Manager plugins or manually inserted snippets if you already have Google Analytics inserted on your site.
Let me know if you have any further questions on the above and I’d be happy to assist.
Hi James
for point 3)
As I said in the 1st message, I’m using this AMP Tag Manager Plugin at the link:
https://gist.github.com/westonruter/2ea25735be279b88c6f0946629d0240c
and I would like to stay with it to avoid installing the Google site kit and change all configurations.
Do you suggest to replace it ?But in the end, you didn’t reply to my very last question?

EnricoHi Enrico,
As I said in the 1st message, I’m using this AMP Tag Manager Plugin at the link:
https://gist.github.com/westonruter/2ea25735be279b88c6f0946629d0240c
and I would like to stay with it to avoid installing the Google site kit and change all configurations.
Do you suggest to replace it ?There are very little configurations to change if you switch to using Google Site Kit. The plugin allows you to select from all the available AMP containers via a dropdown field during setup. You can simply choose the same AMP container as you have presently active via the mini plugin you referenced if you do wish to switch. You can also select any preferred view.
In relation to asking should you switch this in entirely up to you. If you don’t wish to use Site Kit then the plugin your currently using is sufficient.
`But in the end, you didn’t reply to my very last question?
>Finally, do I still need a different GTM container for AMP as it is currently >suggested by this article?,
https://support.google.com/tagmanager/answer/9205783?hl=en
>so that at the end can I keep just the same Container for
>desktop and AMP pages, that is GTM-5KZ7M6N?`If you’re using AMP in paired mode (via the plugins reader or transitional mode) then you’ll need a standard web container for you canonical (non AMP) URLs and an AMP container for your AMP URLs. You can’t use the same container for both.
Let me know if you have any further questions on this.
Hi James
In the end, I installed Google site Kit, but unfortunately, TAG manager cannot be linked. I am getting a screen like in this screenshot with this message:
“It seems that you are using Google Analytics. Your Analytics property UA-41335607-5 is already set up in your Google Tag Manager configuration, so Site Kit will switch to using Google Tag Manager for Analytics”
The button at the end of the page is GRAY and I cannot press it to continue and complete the process.
What can I do now?
EnricoHI James
I found the solution. The error was because I didn’t have admin rights of that TAG, so now I linked all TAGs e deactivated the old plugin.
Can you verify if this new setup is now ok for you as well?
Many thanks for your help.
EnricoNice troubleshooting! Obtaining access to that property or replacing it does indeed allow you to proceed. Glad you were able to solve it.
Can you verify if this new setup is now ok for you as well?
Not a problem. I’ve checked your site and I found the below:
– On your non AMP URLs I see a Tag Manager container with the ID GTM-5KZ7M6N. I also see a UA-4133****-5 Analytics property.
– On your AMP URLs (example) I can see a Tag Manager container with the ID GTM-NKDQXZV. Did you a an Analytics tag to that container? I don’t see any Universal Tracking tag evident.Hi
I found that the AMP containter GTM-5KZ7M6N has same TAGs as GTM-5KZ7M6N, the only difference is that we do not have triggers defined, but we have triggers inside the TAG.
See attached screens.(eventually, I can provide you access to my Tag-manager containers)
Good find! Indeed you’ll need to apply a trigger within your Tag Manager containers. Can you confirm all is working as expected now?
Note that we’re unable to login to users Tag Manager accounts.
HI James
I added the “page view” trigger to AMP container too, but still, Analytics shows same results as before. I’m wondering if AMP triggers are transmitting all views correctly. Furthermore, how can I check by tag assistant if TAG GTM-NKDQXZV is active in AMP?
For instance, when I use my on my laptop
https://tagassistant.google.com/ then
I open a window with this URL
https://magazine.lorenzovinci.it/?gtm_debug=x&=1
I cannot see the AMP container, but always the desktop one: GTM-5KZ7M6NRegards
EnricoUnfortunately the Tag Assistant web app is still in a BETA stage and I doesn’t support AMP containers at this point.
In relation to AMP triggers are transmitting all views the product experts at the Analytics Help Center should be able to assist better than we can here in plugin support. If you want to share an AMP URLs I can ensure the AMP container code does exist, while also checking that a view has been applied.
@enricobt As we haven’t received a response, I’ll mark this as resolved. Feel free to open a new support topic if you continue to encounter issues with the AMP plugin, or reopen this topic and we’d be happy to assist. Thank you!
