I set up a Display campaign in Google Ads to increase website views. The campaign is reporting a recommendation “Finish setting up conversion tracking” and the additional information “Recommended because you’ve added a conversion action, but no conversions are currently being reported”

It shows that my conversion action has been created but I need to set up my conversion tracking tag. I did this with the Google Tag Manager tool.

Following the help links I find my Conversion ID value and Conversion value. I put those in the configuration for the Google Ads Conversion tracking plugin and saved them.

Google Ads is still reporting the same warning. According to Google Tag Manager there is code that needs to be inserted into the site for the tags to work. I expected the plugin would take care of that.

What could be wrong? Is it possibly just going to take some time for everything to start working or am I missing something?

Additionally, it appears I could only have one tracking setting using this plugin. What if I want to have multiple tags? Is there no way to do this?

    Thank you

    Hi

I expected the plugin would take care of that.

    Yes. Our plugin does that.

Is it possibly just going to take some time for everything to start working or am I missing something?

That is possible. Google Ads will not detect it immediately, but only after a purchase confirmation page has been shown to a visitor while the plugin was active. And then it can take up to 48 hours before the status is updated in Google Ads (but mostly it only takes just a few hours).

What if I want to have multiple tags? Is there no way to do this?

Our plugin only tracks purchases. If you for example want to track form submissions there are various ways how to do that. One of them would be using the Google Tag Manager.

I noticed that your purchase confirmation page is not accessible through the default /checkout/order-received/ page. If you simply changed this in the WooCommerce settings that would not be a problem. Our plugin uses a WooCommerce hook to output the pixel on whatever purchase confirmation page is configured. But if you haven’t customized the purchase confirmation page URL, then there might be a problem in your WooCommerce setup.

Also you must make sure that your payment gateway redirects all orders to the purchase confirmation page. Only then the conversion tracking will work.

Send me the URL of a successful purchase (the purchase confirmation page) to support@wolfundbaer.ch and I’ll have a quick look.

I was able to find the purchase confirmation page URL: /index.php/checkout/order-received/

The pixel is being inserted correctly: https://monosnap.com/file/Yv60AVD0YAQDGyco1zRx8n6dr2Mz1G

But it seems you disabled the gtag insertion. Re-enable it and then it should start working.

Let me know once it does.

I see where that is, but I thought it best to tick the box because some other plugin might cause a conflice. I ticked the box next to this tag.

Disable gtag.js insertion if another plugin is inserting it already.

I unticked and saved and we’ll see what happens. I don’t know what other plugin might have inserted the gtag.js … I hope that doesn’t cause a different problem.

    Cheers

    Hi James

    Is it working now?

I had seen a purchase conversion hit so I think it is, but that was quite a while ago. I just made another test purchase and I’ll keep an eye on it and let you know if nothing shows up by tomorrow.

    Thanks
