Support » Theme: Pinboard » good theme – header image limitations

  • overall i do like this theme, except for the header image feature. And for such a standard feature as including a custom header image, its pretty poor. I am currently wrestling with including a logo for a header image. Unless it is exactly 48X196 pixels it pretty much cant work. It forces you to crop to these dimensions (lacking the ‘skip cropping, use as-is’ option.

I am trying to find a way around this in the hard code, something im new to but if i cant figure it out soon I will likely find a different theme to use.

  • Hi there, I used the Pinboard theme and think it’s great. I removed the header image alltogether, however you can use any size image if you pre-size it. I removed parts of the code in header.php to make room for my comet slider. The slider enables you to incorporate lots of images, logos, etc with link function etc. Check out my site [ link redacted, please do not post links in reviews ] and see what is possible with Pinboard. I am not the developer but have learnt a lot about fiddling with code etc, seems to be great to get to know more about coding, which made me feel more powerful in the way i can now design sites… so look at the bright side, no theme comes fully functional out of the box I discovered. The forums are very helpful too if you have some patience.. good luck, Groggo

    nice job on the site.
I have two questions– how did you get the menu bar to end up on top? and how did you change the color of the drop down menus? I can change the menu bar color just fine, but the drop downs stay black.
    Thanks for posting your link!

Hi , for the background of the submenu items paste this code into: Theme Options >> Appearance >> Layout >> there is a CUSTOM CSS field , paste this into it:
    #access li li a {background:#de7e24;}
The Color is #de7e24 but you can use any color code you like, I found mine by using the built in code fields under DESIGN where you pick the color for the main menu (I created the color I wanted and copied the code from there…)
Re Nav Menu on top: Once I installed the Pinboard theme the Menu was always on top already, did nothing. Not sure if you got the same theme..
The only thing I added to the Header.php was the meteor slider shortcode.

Followup: I did edit the HEADER.php in Pinboard. I removed some code, not sure which because it’s gone.. so I pasted the full page. If you don’t use meteor slider, delete the last line of code. Make a backup copy of your existing code first in case it goes wrong for you.

thanks for the replies, hopefully this helps some others out.

I have personally moved on from the Pinboard theme after running into more conflicts with the WP 3.5 update. I was using a couple of Onedesigns themes, pinboard & esplanade. Both lost the page layout & width control functions.
Also they do not support many of the newer jetpack plugin functions, such as the new gallery and slideshow options.
Unless Onedesign releases major updates for all their themes then i dont see it being worth the struggle to continue using their themes. It just becomes an overly frankensteined version of the original which, if/when an update is released, will prob cause more issues.

Thank you for your feedback. Header image has been made flexible and theme overall compatible with WP 3.5 in the latest version:

thanks for the feedback daniel, will all Onedesign themes get updated for WP3.5, I would love to not have to ditch the ‘Esplanade’ theme

Yes, we’re currently working on Esplanade. This one has more than just a few issues.

Thanks Daniel, I still think Pinboard is a great theme, I will stick with it for Artandcraftconnection. I am still using the WP 3.41 and I am worried if I upgrade WP 3.41 to 3.5 I might have a lot of problems. So do you think it’s better to keep the WP 3.41 or what would happen if I upgrade? I just don’t want to have to fix dozens of pages if anything breaks…

I cannot get the social media icons to display in my inboard theme header. I think I made some custom changes to the header to make it smaller which erased the icons. How can I return the header coding to original without resorting the entire site to the default settings?

    my site is

Hi Mike, I used a social media plugin that displays in the header, works fine, just can’t remember at the moment which one, maybe you wanna check the plugin section for something that would work.
Re header problems, of course a child theme would be ideal , that way you never really get into that sort of trouble.. cheers, Groggo

Hi Mike, just saw another thing on your site: Get a spam ressistant contact form, as you would attract a lot of trouble with displaying your email address.. I use coldform which is simple and easy.
