Nice plugin but a bit inflexible. You cannot define individual tweet templates for different post types. Tweeting everything with the same template might be enough for a simple blog. When you run a bit more complex site than a personal blog this functionality is a must have IMHO.

  • There is metabox settings (https://ps.w.org/twitter-auto-publish/assets/screenshot-3.png?rev=2174222) for customizing the message template for each post/post-types, and also it allow editor to enable or disable publishing permission and image uploading permission.
Multiple account and message templates are included with the premium version of WP Twitter Auto Publish.
    Thank you.

So using that metabox I can define different templates (one for each post-type) that are automatically used to tweet when a post is published? That was not clear to me, it looked to me as if it would only tweet for that type that is currently selected in the dropdown. A help text in that dialog would be good.

Is the plugin able to use tags that I define for a post as hashtags in the tweet?

No that’s premium feature, not added to the free plugins.
However, you can add custom texts in the message format section at the metabox.

The metabox in post edit page is for overriding the general settings of plugin.
If the message format in settings is {POST_TITLE} {PERMALINK} and you override it at metabox to {POST_TITLE} read more at {PERMALINK} then the tweet will follow this.
If you enable image posting at settings and override it to do not tweet with image then it will post just the text(If the message format contain {PERMALINK} then twitter will generate a clickable preview as per social meta tags).
If your posts are wordpress scheduled then please set ‘Auto publish on editing posts/pages/custom post types’ to ‘Use settings from post creation or post updation’ in the general settings section.
    Hope this helps.
