Good idea, poorly executed
-
The good news: this plugin works. The bad news: the execution is pretty bad.
The main problem is that the plugin offers only a widget to insert responsive ads. So, unless you have a widget area (most likely a sidebar or footer) that you want to contain responsive ads, it’s not much use.
It’s a PITA if you want a 728×90 banner ad to appear on a desktop site, for example, since that type of banner wouldn’t normally be included in a sidebar/widget area. So a new widget area needs to be added to the theme functions/templates just so the ad can appear.
If the developer was prepared to make some relatively minor changes this could be a far more useful plugin. For example:
- Have a proper admin page where the Adsense settings can be set and stored (rather than within the widget).
- Provide a snippet of php code that site owners can insert into their WP themes to serve up the ads. A shortcode might be helpful too.
- Keep the Responsive Adsense widget, which might be useful to some, but it should take the ad settings from the admin page.
That should do it.
