Support » Plugin: Product SKU Generator for WooCommerce » Good idea, flawed implenetation

  • Although the idea behind the plugin is great, the implementation is flawed.
For their purpose SKU’s should NEVER EVER change. However, if you update the product slug, the SKU is updated as well. So welcome to an accounting horror show.

Instead I would recommend that if you use this plugin anyway, like i do, use the product ID to generate a SKU.

Also, if you’re running a multilingual store with WPML, beware of how this plugin behaves. Make sure that your products don’t get a different SKU in a different language.

Hey @comheroes, thanks so much for this feedback!

Your first point is one we felt that the notice on the plugin page addressed — was there something there that you think could be improved to ensure that it’s clear slug updates will update the SKU? Typically slugs don’t change unless you’re 301 redirecting old slugs for SEO, but we try to make sure this behavior is clear.

As for multilingual stores, we’d be happy to look into any issues you may be seeing. Could you please open up a support thread so we can have a look? Thanks!

    Hello,

Please, what setting do i need to do so that the product ID will be used to generate SKU?

    Thank you

    Regards,

    Stardrive
