Support » Plugin: Wired Impact Volunteer Management » Good, but not flexible enough

  • Works fine for volunteers, but we also want to use the forms and emails to sign up for other things, like potluck dinners or classes. Problem is that “Volunteer” is hardcoded on the form, and on some of the emails.

Thanks for your feedback @stleary and I’m sorry you don’t feel the plugin is flexible enough for you. While I completely understand wanting to use the tool for other things, the volunteer management plugin was built specifically for volunteering with limited flexibility for other uses to keep it as simple to use as possible. If you’re looking for a tool with more flexibility I’d suggest looking at a form building tool like Gravity Forms or a more robust events system like The Events Calendar. Those types of tools may be a better fit for your needs.

In regards to your comment about “Volunteer” being hard-coded, can you give us an idea where you see that? It is possible to overwrite the page content by using the templates provided within the plugin. You would need to copy any of the files within the plugin’s /templates/ folder into a folder within your theme called wivm. From there you can make any needed customizations.

For the emails, you should be able to adjust the from name, from email address, subject lines and the content within the plugin settings at Volunteer Mgmt >> Help & Settings >> Email within the admin side of WordPress. You can also send completely custom emails within each opportunity.

I’d love to hear what you think. We pride ourselves on making great plugins that are easy to use and we never like to see folks unhappy with what we’ve done.
