I am about to build a site for a friend. I have purchased hosting from GoDaddy.com which I have not yet configured because step three of that process asks for a domain name. I don’t want to key in the domain name yet because an old version of the site already exists and I want to make the switch only when the site is completely built using WordPress. (Sort of a grand reveal-type situation.)
My questions are as follows:
1) How do I get my hands on a temporary IP url or similar in order to build the site, and do I do this before I configure the settings of the hosting? (Note: I have some domains hanging which I’m not using, so I could use one of those temporarily if you think that’s better/easier).
2) How do I make the switch from that temporary url to the permanent domain when the time comes? What information should I ask my friend for in order to do this?
i would greatly appreciate some help in this regard. The GoDaddy support is very difficult to navigate for a newbie like me (or anyone, I’m guessing).
